Which Teams Have Qualify for the World Cup So Far

The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is well underway, and a few teams have already punched their tickets to the grand stage.

While qualification is still ongoing in most regions, some teams have wasted no time in sealing their spots early. So far, six teams have officially qualified. Let’s take a look at them.

Japan – The First to Qualify

Japan was the first team to book a spot in the 2026 World Cup, doing so in dominant fashion. They confirmed their qualification with a comfortable 2-0 win over Bahrain, continuing their streak of strong performances. The Samurai Blue have been a powerhouse in Asian football, and their early qualification shows just how much of a force they are in the region.

New Zealand – Oceania’s Best

New Zealand secured their place after defeating New Caledonia 3-0 in the final of the Oceania qualifiers. The expanded World Cup format meant Oceania was guaranteed at least one direct slot, and the All Whites made sure they grabbed it. With no real competition in their region, New Zealand’s qualification was expected, but they still had to get the job done.

Iran

Iran added their name to the list of qualified teams after a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Uzbekistan. They’ve been a regular participant in the World Cup over the years, and this time was no different. Iran’s solid squad and experience helped them navigate the qualifying rounds with confidence.

Argentina

Argentina, the reigning World Cup champions, have secured their place with games to spare. They technically qualified before their 4-1 win over Brazil, thanks to results elsewhere. With Lionel Messi still leading the charge, Argentina will be aiming to defend their title in North America next year.

United States

The U.S. didn’t need to play a single qualifier to secure their place. As co-hosts of the 2026 tournament, they automatically qualified. The American team will be looking to make a deep run on home soil and prove they belong among the world’s best.

Canada

Like the U.S., Canada also qualified automatically as co-hosts. They made a historic return to the World Cup in 2022 after a long absence, and now they’ll get another chance to shine in 2026. With young stars emerging, Canada hopes to put on a strong show in front of their home fans.

More Teams to Come

While these six teams have secured their places, many more will join them in the coming months. With the expanded format, the 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams, giving more nations a shot at competing on the world’s biggest football stage.

Who will be next to qualify? The race is still wide open!
