A.M. Yerima is a Nigerian naval officer whose career and background paint the picture of a disciplined and committed military professional.
Born and raised in Kaduna State, in Northwestern Nigeria, Yerima grew up in a city deeply rooted in military tradition, which would later influence his path in life.
Yerima began his academic journey at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he gained admission in 2011 to study Mass Communication in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Among his peers, he was affectionately known as “MD.” Classmates remember him as tall, lanky, and confident, with strong social skills and a sense of responsibility that set him apart.
After his time at ABU, Yerima made the pivotal decision to join the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), also in Kaduna.
There, he underwent rigorous military and academic training aimed at instilling leadership, loyalty, and honour. His dedication and discipline during this period paved the way for a successful military career.
Following his graduation, Yerima was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Nigerian Navy. He quickly made a name for himself through professionalism, composure under pressure, and commitment to his duties.
He now serves in the Nigerian Special Boat Service (SBS), an elite unit specializing in high-risk maritime operations, counterterrorism, reconnaissance, and rescue missions.
Over the years, Yerima has participated in numerous national and international assignments, honing skills that have earned him respect both within and outside the Navy.
