Why Lagos Speaker and Other VIPs Lost Their Security Details

The withdrawal of security details assigned to Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Meranda Mojisola, and other VIPs was due to a lack of proper approval, not political conflicts.

Sources revealed that many VIPs in Lagos had been enjoying police protection for years without official authorization. The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, ordered an immediate withdrawal of all officers assigned to VIPs without due process.

Why the Security Was Withdrawn

• Some traditional rulers had been using police protection for nearly 20 years without formal approval.
• VIPs are required to officially request police protection, and officers are only assigned upon approval.
• While the Speaker is entitled to security, the police had not received formal communication about the change in Assembly leadership.
• Without this official notification, officers withdrew since there was no directive assigning them to duty.
