Wigwe University Students to Pay N1m Per Month for 1 Bedroom
Wigwe University (WU) is the perfect alternative for children of the elite who don’t trust the existing private universities in Nigeria to deliver on world-class standard level of education.
Founded by the late Access Bank Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe, WU prides itself as the breeding ground for problem solvers, touch bearers, and game-changers who will transform the African continent.
In a country full of potential yet trapped in high-level poverty, projected to increase to 38.8% in 2024, and a continent led by a primitive set, Africa undoubtedly needs a paradigm shift and new thinkers who would take it into the future. But it will come at a cost.
This is why Wigwe said he birthed WU, but fate made sure he wouldn’t be alive to drive the vision. However, his surrogates have taken the baton.
“I cannot change the world overnight. But if I can empower even one youth today, or tomorrow. They could join me in empowering others. With time, we could change the world,” said Herbert Wigwe.

Wigwe University Tuition Fees
Information obtained from the school’s website shows that WU, located in Isiokpo, River State, is divided into four major colleges: the College of Management and Social Sciences, the College of Arts, the College of Science and Computing, and the College of Engineering.
Students are expected to pay a total fee of N11,998,800 each for the College of Engineering, College of Management and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Computing, while College of Arts students are to pay N9.6 million each.
The tuition covers books, laboratory supplies and consumables, personal protective equipment, project lab resources, e-learning resources, health insurance, student membership in professional associations, student activities, and facilities maintenance.

Accommodation
In addition to the tuition fees, students to live on campus are expected to pay N1,000,000 per month for a Luxury Single Bedroom Apartment Plan; N3,845,000 per session for a Premium One En-suite Bedroom Plan; N3,707,000 per session for a Classic One Plan and N3,500,000 per session for Classic Two Plan.
The fees are to be paid in two installments per session. According to the school management, Nigerian students are expected to pay their fees in naira while international students would pay in dollars, which some will argue, is against the government’s drive to make the naira stronger amid the lingering forex crisis.
Wigwe University will open officially in September 2024.
Herbert Wigwe’s Death
Wigwe died in the United States on February 9, 2024, after the helicopter he was traveling in crashed in California. His wife, Chizoba, and son, Chizzy also lost their lives in the same incident. The family was buried in Isiokpo, Rivers State following a one-week-long funeral rites.
“I feel very helpless because I could not prevent the tragedy that befell my friend, brother, and mentee – a very loyal friend for that matter,” Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote said at the memorial in Lagos and promised to name the road leading to his oil refinery after Wigwe.
