Yobe Governor Approves Employment of 1,000 Medical Personnel

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the immediate employment of over 1,000 medical students to boost the healthcare delivery system across the state. The recruitment drive is designed to bridge the human resource gap in public health facilities and improve access to medical care for residents in rural and urban communities.

In addition to the healthcare recruitment, the administration announced the rollout of key financial incentives for public servants in the education sector. According to the official policy update released in Damaturu, the state government has approved the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA).

These allowances will cover personnel across eight state-owned tertiary institutions as well as relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The dual approval aims to stabilise the state’s education system by addressing lingering welfare concerns raised by academic staff unions.

Boosting Yobe’s Healthcare and Education Sectors

The latest recruitment directive targets young medical professionals, including recent graduates of medicine and allied health sciences, to populate primary and secondary healthcare centres constructed or rehabilitated by the state government.

Yobe State has faced systemic challenges in attracting and retaining medical personnel, particularly in remote local government areas affected by historical security concerns. State authorities hope that absorbing over 1,000 newly trained practitioners will provide long-term stability to general hospitals and primary healthcare clinics.

Meanwhile, the approval of the CATA and EAA packages for tertiary institutions follows protracted engagements between state authorities and labour representatives. Academic unions across state-owned polytechnics, colleges of education, and universities have frequently advocated for the regularisation of these allowances to match federal benchmarks.

Implementation details, including payment schedules and the verification process for beneficiaries under the new medical recruitment and staff allowance schemes, are expected to be coordinated through the Office of the Head of the Civil Service and the Ministry of Establishment in the coming days.
