In this interview with Business Elites Africa, Nwogu shares insights into his journey, how he continues to shape the future of oil and gas, and the lessons he’s learned along the way.

How did you get to where you are today, and what inspired it?
My journey began with a strong foundation in chemical engineering, studying at Laspotech (Lagos State Polytechnic) and Futo (Federal University of Technology, Owerri). I then furthered my education with an MBA and earned a PMP certification.
Transitioning from academic excellence to practical application, I found my niche in the Nigerian oil and gas sector, particularly within Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
The key turning point was when I founded Bizville Project Management Limited, which scaled significantly and led me to my current role as COO (Chief Operating Officer). My journey has been marked by continuous learning, adapting to industry changes, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Can you share a specific moment when you realised you were on the verge of something big?
One defining moment came when Bizville Project Management Ltd., through my leadership, was awarded a significant contract to manage the scheduling for Saipem’s project at the Dangote Fertilizer Plant.
At the time, we were focused on Project Management and Project Controls Software Training. This opportunity not only validated our capabilities but positioned us as a key player in the industry.
To capitalise on this momentum, I concentrated on building a strong team, improving our internal processes, and expanding our service offerings. This strategic approach has helped us establish a reputation for excellence and reliability.
What unique qualities have been critical to your success in an increasingly competitive world?
Resilience, strategic thinking, and an unwavering commitment to integrity. These qualities have been integral to my success. I nurture them by continuously learning, staying updated with industry trends, and surrounding myself with a strong support system that includes mentorship and a highly collaborative team.
How have you leveraged your influence to not only achieve personal success but also to create change in your community or industry?
I’ve leveraged my influence by leading initiatives that prioritise local content development and sustainability within the oil and gas sector.

What was your strategy for breaking into your industry, especially considering the challenges in the African market?
My strategy centred on leveraging my technical background, building a strong professional network, and understanding the local market’s unique challenges.
Overcoming both regional and global hurdles required adaptability, whether that meant navigating regulatory challenges or dealing with volatile market conditions. By staying informed, proactive, and forming strategic partnerships, we found the support and resources we needed.
When faced with high-stakes decisions, how do you balance risk and reward to ensure long-term success?
Balancing risk and reward requires a thorough analysis of potential outcomes. I consider both immediate impacts and long-term benefits, often consulting with my team and using data-driven insights. A significant example was when Bizville expanded into recruitment, securing a federal government recruiter licence for seven sectors, including oil and gas.
This placed us in competition with established agencies but also diversified our services and created a new revenue stream. It ultimately enhanced our market presence and established us as a versatile industry leader.
What was the most unconventional approach you took that turned out to be a game-changer?
One unconventional approach was making marketing and business development a central focus through thought leadership. By positioning Bizville as a thought leader, we were able to distinguish ourselves in a traditionally conservative industry.
I articulated how thought leadership would elevate our brand and drive business opportunities, and supported this with successful case studies and industry engagements. This approach expanded our market presence and influence significantly.
How do you maintain resilience and focus in a fast-paced environment where the pressure to perform is constant?
I manage resilience and focus through effective time management, delegation, and self-care. I prioritise tasks, delegate responsibilities, and engage in regular exercise, mindfulness practices, and reflection. These habits keep me grounded and help me perform at my best under pressure.
In a world that’s rapidly evolving, how do you future-proof your career and business?
Future-proofing involves staying ahead of industry trends, embracing technology, and constantly upskilling. At Bizville, we invest in digital transformation, enhance our data analytics capabilities, and build strategic partnerships.
This proactive approach ensures that we are not only prepared for the next wave of innovation but can lead it.

What is your leadership philosophy, and how has it evolved as you’ve grown in influence and responsibility?

Over time, I’ve evolved this philosophy to focus more on cross-functional collaboration and HSE compliance. I ensure its effectiveness by fostering an inclusive culture, actively seeking feedback from my team, and staying attuned to the cultural and business dynamics of our operating environments.
How do you define wealth, and how has that definition influenced your approach to business and life?

I align daily decisions with this vision, ensuring that our projects and strategies support these long-term goals.
If you could leave one lesson for the next generation of African leaders, what would it be?
The lesson I would leave is the importance of resilience and adaptability. I embody this lesson by pushing boundaries, staying committed, and leading by example in both my professional and personal life.
I actively engage in initiatives that challenge the status quo and drive positive change while balancing personal and professional growth.
