All the Countries Heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The world’s biggest football event is almost here, and this time, it’s going to be bigger than ever. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will make history as the first edition to feature 48 teams, expanding the competition and giving more nations a chance to shine on football’s grandest stage.

Hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States, the upcoming tournament promises unforgettable memories, electric atmospheres, and the kind of drama that only the World Cup can deliver. 

With qualifying still ongoing, 28 nations have already booked their place, while 20 more are still battling for the remaining tickets. Here’s a look at all the countries that have officially secured their spots.

Host Nations

Canada

Canada completes the trio of host nations, marking their second consecutive World Cup appearance, a first in the nation’s history. After their debut in 1986 and a return in 2022, the Maple Leafs are set to take another shot at making it past the group stage in front of home fans.

Mexico

Football passion runs deep in Mexico, and history will be made once again as they host the World Cup for a record third time (after 1970 and 1986). 

With 18 total appearances, El Tri will aim to finally break their quarter-final curse that has haunted them since those earlier home tournaments.

United States

The U.S. men’s national team enters the 2026 tournament as automatic qualifiers and co-hosts. It will be their 12th World Cup appearance and the second on American soil since 1994. 

With a new generation of stars, the U.S. is hoping for a deeper run than their best-ever finish, the semi-finals in 1930.

Asia (AFC)

Japan


The Samurai Blue made qualification look easy, sealing their eighth consecutive World Cup berth with games to spare. Japan remains one of Asia’s most consistent performers and will look to go further than their 2022 Round of 16 exit.

South Korea (Korea Republic)

Another Asian powerhouse, the Taeguk Warriors, are heading to their 11th straight World Cup. After a 2-0 victory over Iraq, they’re hoping to rekindle the magic of their famous 2002 semi-final run.

Iran

Iran booked their fourth consecutive appearance following a tense 2-2 draw with Uzbekistan. With a solid core of experienced players, the team will be keen to finally progress beyond the group stage.

Uzbekistan

It’s celebration time in Tashkent! Uzbekistan made history by qualifying for their first-ever World Cup, a moment that signals a new era for Central Asian football.

Jordan

Jordan followed in Uzbekistan’s footsteps, securing a maiden World Cup appearance with a 3-0 victory over Oman. Their journey from underdogs to history-makers has captured hearts across the continent.

Australia

The Socceroos are heading to their sixth straight World Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 comeback win over Saudi Arabia. Known for their fighting spirit, Australia will be one to watch.

Saudi Arabia

A 0-0 draw with Iraq sealed Saudi Arabia’s third consecutive qualification. With memories of their giant-killing win over Argentina in 2022, the Green Falcons will be eager to repeat the magic.

Qatar

Morocco

Tunisia

With a solid defense and consistent form, Tunisia sealed qualification with two games left. This will be their seventh World Cup appearance.

Egypt

Led by Mohamed Salah, Egypt returns to the global stage after missing 2022, thanks to a dominant 3-0 victory over Djibouti. The Pharaohs are determined to make their presence felt.

Algeria

Back for the first time since 2014, the Desert Foxes cruised to a 3-0 win over Somalia to confirm their return. Their attacking flair makes them a dangerous side.

Ghana

England

The Three Lions roared to an easy qualification, crushing Latvia 5-0. This will be their eighth consecutive World Cup and the first held on American soil since they missed USA ’94.
