Are Loan Apps Harassing You? Here’s How to Report Them

Many people turn to loan apps when they need quick cash, but some of these lenders go too far when collecting debts. If you’ve ever received threatening messages, had your contacts exposed, or been publicly shamed by a loan app, you’re not alone.

The good news? You can fight back. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has made it clear that no one should be harassed over unpaid loans. If a loan app is crossing the line, you can report them and take action.

Signs of Loan App Harassment

Not sure if what you’re experiencing counts as harassment? Here are some red flags:

  • The loan app sends abusive or threatening messages.
  • They contact your family, friends, or employer about your debt.
  • They publish your personal details online.
  • They charge hidden fees or manipulate repayment terms.

If any of this sounds familiar, it’s time to report them.

How to Report Harassing Loan Apps

Report to the FCCPC

The FCCPC is responsible for protecting consumers from unfair business practices. To file a complaint:

  • Email: Send your complaint to contact@fccpc.gov.ng with details of the harassment.
  • Social Media: Message them directly on X (Twitter) @fccpcnigeria.
  • Website:
    1. Visit fccpc.gov.ng
    2. Click on Menu > File a Complaint
    3. Fill in your details, the loan app’s details, and a brief explanation of the issue.
    4. Upload any evidence, such as screenshots of messages.
    5. Submit your complaint.

Report to Google Play Store

If the loan app is listed on Google Play, you can report them for policy violations:

  • Open the Google Play Store
  • Search for the app
  • Scroll down and tap “Flag as inappropriate”
  • Select “Harmful or abusive content” and explain your complaint.

Alert Your Bank

If the loan app has unauthorized access to your bank account, notify your bank immediately. They may be able to block the app from making withdrawals.

What Happens After You Report?

Once your complaint is received, the FCCPC will investigate the loan app. In some cases, apps have been taken down or banned for their actions. The more reports they receive, the stronger the case against these lenders.

No o/ne deserves to be bullied over a loan. If a loan app is harassing you, don’t stay silent—report them and protect yourself. The law is on your side.
