Ballon d’Or Unveils 2025 Women Nominees

France Football has shared the names of the 30 players up for the 2025 Women’s Ballon d’Or. These players come from many countries and have shown the best performances in women’s football over the past season.

This year’s list reflects how the women’s game has grown stronger and more popular around the world.

Spain Leads the Way

Spain has more players on the shortlist than any other country. Midfield stars Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas from Barcelona are once again favourites, having played key roles for both club and country.

They are joined by teammates Mariona Caldentey, Patri Guijarro, Esther González, and Claudia Pina. Together, these six Spanish players helped Barcelona and Spain win big trophies this season by keeping possession, creating chances, and scoring important goals.

Strong Representation from England

England’s Women’s Super League has made a big impact too. Forwards Alessia Russo and Chloe Kelly have earned places on the list.

Russo is known for her strong finishing in front of goal, while Kelly shines with her speed and smart runs in big games.

Their nominations show how the English league has become one of the top women’s competitions in the world.

A Truly Global Lineup

Outside Europe, the shortlist includes top talents from Brazil, the United States, France, Italy, and Germany.

Brazilian players bring skilful dribbling and flair, while U.S. stars stand out for their power and consistency. France sends its best home-grown players, Italy is represented by top defenders, and Germany by disciplined, well-organised performers.

This mix of players from many regions shows that women’s football now has a strong presence on every continent.
