The Bayelsa State Government has cautioned residents against the submission of frivolous petitions to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The state administration expressed concern over the overwhelming volume of petitions currently filed with the anti-graft agency, describing the submissions as “heaps” of reports.
According to the government, there is a worrying trend of citizens utilizing the commission to lodge complaints that lack merit or verified evidence.
The administration warned that these baseless petitions distract the commission from investigating genuine cases of corruption and waste critical administrative resources.
Residents are encouraged to ensure that any report made to the ICPC is backed by credible information and factual evidence to avoid the legal or administrative consequences associated with filing false allegations.
The move comes as the government seeks to ensure that anti-corruption efforts in the state are driven by verified reports rather than personal vendettas or groundless claims.
