Cross River Assembly Speaker Elvert Ayambem Impeached

The Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Elvert Ayambem, has been impeached.

The decision, made during a plenary session on Wednesday, came after serious allegations of financial misappropriation and incompetence were leveled against Ayambem.

Elvert Ayambem’s impeachment notice was signed by 17 members of the assembly.

The impeachment motion was moved by Hon. Effiom Ekarika of Calabar South 1 Constituency and seconded by Hon. Omang Charles Omang from Bekwarra State Constituency.

The lawmakers at the Cross Rivers assembly have reportedly resorted to violence following Ayambem’s impeachment.

A video circulating online shows the lawmakers engaging in physical altercation while one of them attempted to snatch the maze.
