Dangote, CNN Sign Multi-Year Partnership for Africa Inc.

Dangote Industries announced yesterday a multi-year partnership with CNN International Commercial to expand its global brand presence, anchored around a new African business programme, branded content and international events.

The deal gives Dangote sponsorship rights around Africa Inc., a new CNN International show examining African companies competing in global markets. The half-hour programme premieres on August 29.

British-Nigerian journalist Adefemi Akinsanya will host the show from Lagos. CNN hired her earlier this month; she previously worked at Arise News, Reuters, Al Jazeera, Sky News and TRT World.Africa Inc. will follow companies in technology, hospitality, manufacturing and entertainment. Four more episodes will run through the rest of 2026 and into 2027.

Dangote is also sponsoring bespoke Africa Inc. segments, which CNN plans to air every two months, and the programme will extend into digital and social content on CNN.com.

Yesterday’s announcement went beyond programme sponsorship. CNN International Commercial’s in-house studio, Create, is producing a separate branded-content series called Africa First, focused on energy independence, industrialisation and economic change across Africa. Dangote Industries will feature within that storytelling too.

The distinction matters here. Africa Inc. runs as a sponsored programme. Africa First, produced by CNN’s commercial studio, runs as branded content built specifically for this partnership.

CNN will push the wider campaign across CNN International, CNN.com and CNN Arabic, plus its Business channels on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Africa First content lands on CNN’s US television and digital platforms as well.

Dangote will sponsor three editions of CNN’s Global Perspectives events over the next year, part of yesterday’s agreement. CNN has already listed Dangote among the sponsors for its Global Perspectives event in Bangkok.

Anthony Chiejina, group chief branding and communications officer at Dangote Industries, tied yesterday’s announcement to the company’s broader international ambitions.

He said the collaboration fits Dangote’s global brand strategy and gives the group another platform to push its Vision 2030 plans and industrial operations across Africa. For Dangote, the value sits in reaching an international business audience across television, digital media, social platforms and live events.

CNN and Dangote go back further than this deal. The two companies have worked together before on Marketplace Africa, branded campaigns and other sponsored programming. CNN’s commercial division has said an earlier Dangote campaign pulled in more than 26 million digital advertising impressions and 153,000 views on a dedicated branded-content page.

The agreement lands as Dangote pushes the international profile of its industrial businesses harder, particularly in cement, fertiliser and energy.

CNN has already started expanding the format past broadcast. Shorter programme segments began airing on August 5, and the network plans to run the series alongside digital and social distribution going forward.

Cathy Ibal, CNN International Commercial’s senior vice president for advertising sales, said the partnership connects stories about African companies and industrial development with CNN’s international audience.

The Africa First branded-content campaign starts running ahead of Africa Inc.’s August 29 premiere.
