Dangote Pushes 50m Litres of Petrol into the Market
Nigeria is set to receive a major boost in petrol supply as the Dangote Petroleum Refinery begins releasing 50 million litres of petrol per day into the market.
The new supply plan, which starts today, is aimed at keeping the country free from fuel scarcity throughout the festive season.
According to the company, this daily release adds up to 1.5 billion litres of petrol for the entire month of December, with the same volume expected again in January 2026.
The move is part of a broader effort to stabilise the fuel market and reassure Nigerians that there will be no shortage during a period when demand usually rises.
Commitment to steady supply
President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, explained that the increased supply reflects the refinery’s commitment to supporting the country.
He said the facility is currently producing 40–45 million litres of petrol daily, and pushing output to 50 million litres per day shows the refinery’s capacity to meet national demand.
He added that this plan should finally end the long-time argument that Nigerian refineries cannot produce enough fuel for local consumption.
Working with regulators and marketers
To ensure transparency, the company has written to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), inviting officials to monitor production every day.
The refinery said it is ready to make its daily figures public so Nigerians can see exactly what is being produced and supplied.
Dangote Refinery is also in talks with petroleum marketers to strengthen distribution. This includes expanding the use of CNG-powered trucks, which can help move petrol across the country more efficiently.
According to Dangote, this effort is not about profit, but about ensuring Nigerians have steady access to essential energy products, similar to how the Dangote Group helped stabilise the cement sector.
It’s plans for expansion
In a letter signed by the refinery’s CEO, David Bird, the company also revealed that it is moving forward with its plan to expand to 1.4 million barrels per day.
This massive project will involve more than 100,000 workers, covering both the refinery and the fertiliser complex.
During a visit to the refinery, the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) praised the company’s work. SSDC’s Managing Director, Usoro Offiong Akpabio, described the South-South region as Nigeria’s natural energy hub and highlighted the potential for deeper collaboration with the Dangote Group.
She said such partnerships could boost fuel distribution, CNG infrastructure, agriculture, petrochemicals, logistics, and job creation while also supporting the Federal Government’s goal of long-term energy stability.
