Police investigation into rally casualties

The command stated that officers are currently working to gather eyewitness accounts and process evidence from the scene to establish whether the violence was an organised attack or a spontaneous confrontation between different factions. While the specific identity of the deceased has not been officially released, the police are in the process of identifying the victim and notifying their next of kin.

The five injured persons were reportedly rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Their current medical conditions have not been fully disclosed by hospital authorities, though officials are monitoring their progress.

The Obedient/OK Movement has been active in mobilising supporters for the NDC candidate, often holding large-scale events to drum up support. The sudden escalation of violence at this rally has raised questions among local stakeholders about the adequacy of security presence at such large-scale political gatherings in Delta State.

Political gatherings in the Niger Delta region have often been subject to security challenges due to the intense competition between various political interest groups. This incident, involving the Obedient/OK Movement and its support for Peter Obi, adds to the ongoing concerns regarding the safety of political actors and supporters during campaign periods.

The Delta State Police Command has assured the public that the perpetrators of the violence will be brought to justice. Security agencies are also expected to review deployment strategies for upcoming political events in the state to mitigate the risk of similar occurrences. At present, the investigation remains active as the command seeks to clarify the motives behind the attack.
