The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Mr. Aliyu, has declared that the reelection of President Bola Tinubu is mandatory, announcing an intensified grassroots campaign to secure support in the state.
Mr. Aliyu, who also serves as the coordinator of the City Boy Movement—a pro-Tinubu support group in Jigawa—revealed that the organisation is shifting its strategy toward direct community engagement. The group plans to launch a house-to-house mobilisation drive to reach voters across the state ahead of upcoming polls.
The Speaker made these assertions during an announcement regarding the necessity of President Tinubu’s continued leadership, signalling an aggressive push by local political actors to consolidate the presidency’s standing in Northern Nigeria.
Grassroots mobilisation strategy
According to the Speaker, the house-to-house tactic is intended to ensure that the federal administration’s policies and achievements are communicated directly to citizens at the ward and local government levels. This approach aims to bypass traditional media channels and build personal connections with the electorate in their immediate environments.
The involvement of the City Boy Movement highlights the increasing reliance on organised support groups within the Nigerian political landscape. These groups often act as vital intermediaries between the ruling party and the grassroots, particularly in states where local community influence is a decisive factor in electoral outcomes.
By positioning himself as both a legislative leader and a coordinator for a pro-Tinubu movement, Mr. Aliyu is bridging the gap between state-level governance and national political objectives. His stance suggests a coordinated effort to ensure that Jigawa State remains a stronghold for the current administration.
The City Boy Movement has indicated that the mobilisation exercises will commence across all local government areas in Jigawa to prepare for the next electoral cycle.
