The Development Research and Project Centre (dRPC) has opened applications for an eight-week virtual training programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of Nigerian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and foundations.
The programme, which is scheduled to run from 20 October to 19 December 2026, is designed to improve organisational management, resilience, philanthropy, and sustainable funding models among local organisations. By offering this training for free, dRPC seeks to equip non-profit entities with the technical skills necessary to navigate a challenging economic environment and maintain long-term impact.
The announcement regarding the free training for Nigerian NGOs and foundations comes at a time when many local civil society organisations face difficulties in securing consistent funding and maintaining professional institutional structures.
Objectives of the dRPC training programme
The virtual curriculum focuses on several core areas essential for the survival and growth of non-profit organisations in Africa. These include advanced organisational management, building institutional resilience, and understanding the dynamics of modern philanthropy. A major component of the training is dedicated to sustainable funding, a critical area for Nigerian NGOs that often rely on sporadic international grants.
The decision to host the programme virtually allows organisations across various states in Nigeria to participate without the logistical constraints of physical attendance. This accessibility is intended to ensure that even smaller, community-based organisations in underserved regions can benefit from the expertise provided.
For many Nigerian foundations, the transition from being project-based to becoming institutionally stable is a significant hurdle. The training aims to provide the frameworks required to move beyond temporary donor cycles and establish more predictable revenue streams and operational protocols.
Interested organisations are expected to complete their applications before the programme commences in late October. Further details regarding the specific application requirements and selection criteria are expected to be released by the dRPC in the coming weeks.
