How to Unblock Your MTN, Airtel, and Other SIMs Using Shortcodes
Nigerian telecommunications companies have provided detailed instructions for subscribers to unblock their SIM cards following disconnections prompted by the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN)-SIM harmonisation initiative.
This effort aims to bolster the integrity of the national SIM registration database and has led to temporary service interruptions for many users.
To help restore service, the telecom providers released a statement on Monday detailing the following steps for reactivating SIM cards:
1. Airtel: Dial *121# and enter your eleven-digit NIN. You will receive a confirmation message indicating that your Airtel SIM has been successfully unbarred.
2. 9mobile (EMTS): Dial *200*8#.
3. Glo: Dial 109 followed by your NIN (e.g., *109*12345678901#), and follow the prompts to submit your NIN.
4. MTN: To check your NIN status, visit [nin.mtn.ng](http://nin.mtn.ng). If your NIN is not linked, you can link it by providing an OTP and your NIN. Once linked, your line will automatically be unbarred.
5. Smile: Email your NIN to customercare@smile.com.ng or call 07020444444. After providing consent and verifying your NIN, your line will be unbarred.
6. Spectranet: You can submit your NIN by calling 8002345678 or emailing care@spectranet.com.ng. Although you can start the process online, KYC verification must be completed at a Spectranet store.
7. Ntel: Visit any Ntel store with your NIN. Your line will be updated and unbarred following fingerprint verification of your existing KYC profile and your consent.
