INEC Joins Forces with 15 Parties to Reduce Electoral Misconduct
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Nigeria are working together to stop vote-buying and reduce violence during elections.
At a recent workshop in Osogbo, Osun State, leaders from about 15 political parties discussed these issues. They acknowledged that political actors often cause these problems, not INEC.
Mutiu Agboke, the electoral commissioner for Osun State, stressed the importance of educating political stakeholders to change their behavior during elections.
He believes that proper education can help encourage voters to participate freely and fairly.
Pastor Victor Akande, the chairman of IPAC in the state, also spoke at the workshop. He emphasised the need for political parties to work together to address vote-buying and violence, which harm the democratic process.
He advised political parties to behave peacefully in the upcoming local government elections to maintain order and unity in the state.
