Inkblot’s ‘Family Gbese’ Rakes in ₦28.1 Million at Nigerian Box Office in Just Two Weeks

Inkblot Productions’ new film, “Family Gbese,” has quickly become a hit in Nigeria, earning ₦28.1 million in just two weeks after its release.

The film made ₦15.2 million in its first week and added another ₦12.7 million in its second week.

“Family Gbese” is about a young man who is doing well in his job but is worried about his older brother’s gambling problem.

His brother owes a lot of money to local gangs, putting the young man in a tough spot — he must choose between helping his family or his love life. The movie looks at themes of family loyalty and the personal cost of success.

The film was released in theaters across Nigeria on November 8, 2024, after the success of Inkblot’s previous blockbuster, “Muri & Ko,” which made over ₦100 million.

Directed by Michelle Bello, a British-Nigerian filmmaker, “Family Gbese” adds to her growing list of film projects.

Bello began her career in 2007 working on the show “Moments With Mo” and has directed several projects since then, including “Sesame Street Nigeria” and her first major film “Small Boy,” which got her nominations at significant film festivals like the American Black Film Festival.

She won two awards at the 2009 African Movie Academy Awards and received the Trailblazer Award at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in 2014.

The movie features a cast of well-known actors including Ireti Doyle, Muyiwa Ademola, Adeniyi Johnson, Yemi Solade, Fathia Williams, Seun Kentebe, Mike Ezuruonye, Teniola Aladese, Lilian Afegbai, Sandar Okunzuwa, Genovevah Umeh, and Susan Peters.

Their performances have played a big part in the film’s success at the box office.
