Interswitch expands Discovery Series to EKSU and LAUTECH

Interswitch Group, a major player in Nigeria’s integrated payments and digital commerce sector, is expanding its youth innovation programme, the Discovery Series, to three additional Nigerian universities. The initiative will reach Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), and Lead City University, beginning in late October 2026.

The upcoming phase of the programme is scheduled to commence at EKSU from 28 to 30 October 2026. This expansion follows the company’s ongoing efforts to engage with the next generation of digital talent across the country.

As part of this latest expansion of its innovation drive, Interswitch aims to provide students with practical insights into the digital economy and the evolving technological landscape.

Bridging the gap between academia and the tech industry

The decision to move the Discovery Series to EKSU, LAUTECH, and Lead City University aligns with the growing need to address the skills gap within Nigeria’s technology sector. While Nigerian universities produce a high volume of graduates, there is a persistent demand from employers for individuals with hands-on experience in digital commerce, software development, and fintech operations.

By bringing the programme directly to these campuses, Interswitch provides a platform for students to move beyond theoretical classroom learning. The sessions are intended to expose participants to the practicalities of digital payment systems and the technical requirements of the modern workforce.

Interswitch has maintained a significant presence in the Nigerian fintech ecosystem, helping to build the foundational infrastructure for electronic payments. Through the Discovery Series, the group is attempting to nurture the human capital necessary to sustain this infrastructure. The programme serves as a talent identification tool, allowing the company to interact with high-potential students who may eventually enter the digital workforce.

The inclusion of technical institutions like LAUTECH suggests a strategic focus on students already studying engineering and technology-related disciplines. This targeted approach is designed to refine existing skills and prepare students for the specific rigours of the tech industry.

Following the conclusion of the activities at EKSU at the end of October, the programme will proceed to the other designated universities as part of its scheduled itinerary.
