Lagos State Releases New Bus Fares Across All Routes

Lagos State has released a new fare schedule for its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network and standard route services, with prices now ranging from ₦430 to ₦1,710 depending on the route and service type.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) confirmed the new fares, which take effect immediately across all designated corridors.

The revision covers standard intra-city routes, additional suburban routes, and dedicated BRT corridors, affecting millions of daily commuters who depend on the bus network to navigate one of Africa’s busiest cities.

Among the priciest standard routes is the Berger–Ajah corridor at ₦1,710, while shorter trips such as Oshodi–Agege come in at just ₦430. BRT-specific fares on the Ikorodu–Mile 12 route are set at ₦450, making it one of the more affordable options on that network.

The most expensive route on the entire network is Berger–Ajah at ₦1,710. The cheapest is Oshodi–Agege at ₦430.

The new structure reflects the rising cost of operations, including fuel, maintenance, and driver wages, which transport operators say have surged significantly in recent months. Consumer advocacy groups have called for government subsidies to ease the burden on low-income commuters who rely on public buses as their only means of transport.
