List of EPL Coaches Sacked Across the Last Two Seasons

In less than two campaigns, nine head coaches have been removed as owners chased quick fixes to stalled seasons, TV-revenue safety, and fan pressure.

Beyond the headlines, the pattern shows a shrinking patience window and a readiness to make back-to-back changes inside a single season.

The sackings

Erik ten Hag — Manchester United (28 Oct 2024)

United cut ties two days after a 2–1 defeat at West Ham left them 14th. Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim while the club explored long-term options.

Steve Cooper — Leicester City (24 Nov 2024)

Newly promoted Leicester ended Cooper’s five-month stint with the side in 16th after 12 games (two wins), citing performances and direction.

Gary O’Neil — Wolverhampton Wanderers (15 Dec 2024)

Dismissed after a 2–1 home loss to newly promoted Ipswich, capped a grim run. The club moved early to halt a slide toward the bottom three.

Russell Martin — Southampton (15 Dec 2024)

Sacked hours after a 5–0 home defeat by Spurs; Saints had just one win in 16. The board pointed to trajectory as much as results.

Julen Lopetegui — West Ham United (6–8 Jan 2025)

Gone eight months into the job despite heavy summer spend; performances did not match expectations.

Sean Dyche — Everton (9 Jan 2025)

Removed with the team hovering near the drop zone, a timing that underlined ownership anxiety.

Nuno Espírito Santo — Nottingham Forest (9 Sep 2025)

Dismissed three league games into the new season amid a breakdown with ownership after disagreements over summer business.

Graham Potter — West Ham United (27 Sep 2025)

Sacked after a poor start to 2025/26; the club acknowledged results weren’t good enough across late last season and the new one.

Ange Postecoglou — Nottingham Forest (18 Oct 2025)

Dismissed just 39 days after appointment, minutes after a 3–0 home defeat to Chelsea left Forest 18th. He became the season’s shortest-tenured Premier League manager to be sacked; Forest moved quickly to appoint a replacement.
