Meet Douglas Kendyson, the Creative Egghead Behind Selar

In the dynamic and interesting realm of digital entrepreneurship, few names shine as brightly as Douglas Kendyson, the innovative mind driving the success of Selar, a platform that has become synonymous with empowering creators and entrepreneurs in the online space. Let’s take a look at the life of this interesting personality as we explore his journey, vision, and the impact he’s quietly making with Selar.

The Early Visionary

Douglas Kendyson’s story begins with a passion for technology and a vision for democratising digital commerce. Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Kendyson was inspired by the growing wave of innovation sweeping across the African tech landscape. Armed with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by digital creators and entrepreneurs, he set out to create a platform that would simplify the process of monetising digital products.

How Selar Came To Be

Selar, conceived by Kendyson, emerged as a solution to the hurdles faced by many digital content creators and small businesses. Launched in 2016, Selar was designed as an all-encompassing platform that allows users to sell digital products effortlessly, from e-books and courses to music and software.

The idea to build the platform, Kendyson says, came after he’d quit his job at Paystack as a customer success expert & software engineer, and with no backup plan, he remained jobless two months later.

According to Kendyson, Selar.co was simply a mini project he’ed started with some friends in October 2016 and it was born out of the realisation that Paystack didn’t offer their services to non-registered businesses. Seeing that that market needed to be filled, he and his friends started it albeit as a random project on the side.

The plan, he says, was to make a simple replica of Paystack’s payment page, where non-registered business owners can sell their stuff leveraging Paystack’s split payment feature.

Empowering Digital Creators

At the heart of Selar’s mission is the commitment to empower digital creators. Douglas Kendyson envisioned a platform that would level the playing field, providing independent artists, authors, and entrepreneurs with the tools they need to showcase and sell their creations globally. Selar achieves this by offering a user-friendly interface, secure payment processing, and a suite of features tailored to meet the specific needs of the digital creator community.
