Meta’s Threads Reaches 275 Million Users

Meta’s social platform, Threads, now has 275 million active users each month. This is a big step for Threads as it tries to compete with X (formerly Twitter).

Adam Mosseri, the head of Threads and Instagram, shared the news on Sunday. He thanked users for their support and said that while there are still things to improve, it is an exciting place to be.

Threads was launched by Meta in July 2023 to compete with X, which lost many users after Elon Musk bought it.

The platform gained 100 million users in its first week, partly because it was easy for Instagram users to join.

However, after the initial excitement, some users explored other social networks or returned to older platforms, causing engagement to dip.

To address this, Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg assured investors in April that Threads was growing as expected.

He even mentioned how popular singer Taylor Swift joining Threads brought attention to the platform, showing its cultural relevance.

New Features and Growth

Since its launch, Meta has added new features to Threads to make it more useful and interesting for users.

One major update was connecting it with ActivityPub, a system used by networks like Mastodon.

This allows Threads users to link with people on other platforms in a shared online network called the Fediverse.

In March, the platform allowed users in the U.S. who are 18 or older to connect their accounts to this decentralized network, letting their posts be seen on other platforms.

By April 2024, the platform had grown to 150 million monthly users, and by July, this number rose to 175 million.

With 275 million users, the platform has grown by an impressive 57% since July, showing that it is becoming a major player in social media.
