President Tinubu Confirms Four Key Appointments, What We Know

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed four new appointments at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), in what the presidency describes as a move to strengthen the country’s national broadcasting system.

The announcement was made in a statement released on the official government platform, with the appointments taking immediate effect. According to the presidency, the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to repositioning NTA as a tool for unity, national cohesion, and soft diplomacy.

The New Appointees

The reshuffle brings in a fresh management team to oversee different arms of the broadcaster:

  • Rotimi Richard Pedro (Lagos, South-West) – Director-General
  • Karimah Bello (Katsina, North-West) – Executive Director, Marketing
  • Stella Din (Plateau, North-Central) – Executive Director, News
  • Sophia Issa Mohammed (Adamawa, North-East) – Managing Director, NTA Enterprises Limited

Spotlight on Rotimi Pedro

Among the appointees, Rotimi Pedro stands out as the new Director-General of NTA. A Lagos-born media entrepreneur and consultant, Pedro has nearly three decades of experience spanning broadcasting, sports rights, and marketing communications across Africa, the UK, and the Middle East.

He is also a trained entertainment and intellectual property lawyer, with an MSc in Investment Management and Finance from City University Business School, London.

His wealth of experience is expected to play a critical role in repositioning the public broadcaster for modern challenges.

Why this matters

NTA, once regarded as Nigeria’s flagship broadcaster, has in recent years faced stiff competition from private stations and digital platforms.

The appointment of a new leadership team drawn from diverse regions of the country signals a fresh attempt by the Tinubu administration to revive its relevance and influence.

With this shake-up, all eyes will be on the new appointees to see whether they can deliver on the promise of using NTA as a stronger voice for national unity and Nigeria’s image abroad.
