What Raddison Hotel’s Expansion into Djibouti Means for both the Company and the Country’s Economy

Earlier this morning, Raddison Hotel Group announced the signing of Raddison Hotel Djibouti in partnership with Sanlam Properties. This development brings Raddison Hotel’s East African portfolio to a total of 18 hotels. It also underscores the company’s determination to permanently establish its presence across Africa and position itself as the hospitality brand of choice for both business and leisure.

Key Features of the Hotel

A statement that was seen by Business Elites Africa noted that Raddison Hotel Djibouti will be located in the heart of Djibouti City and 15 minutes away from Djibouti International Airport. The building, which will have 144 rooms, is expected to open for business in 2024. The modern hotel will offer the following:

  • Modern Standard Rooms and Suites
  • Accessible Rooms designed for wheelchair access
  • Varied dining options; including international and local cuisines
  • Expansive meetings and events area
  • Spa, gym and outdoor swimming pool

While commenting on the deal, Raddison Hotel Group’s Senior Director for Africa, Erwan Granier, said: “We are delighted to mark our entry into Djibouti with Radisson, currently our fastest growing upscale brand in Africa. With its existing limited branded hotel supply, we are confident that Radisson Hotel Djibouti will be the country’s leading internationally branded hotel. Along with our partners, Salaam Properties, we are proud to be contributing to the Djibouti Vision 2035 strategy for economic diversification which relies strongly on the growth of the tourism industry.”

Sanlam Property’s Manager, Fatima Zahra, also commented on the development, expressing confidence that the hotel would contribute immensely towards boosting the country’s economy economy through job creation. She also stated that “the hotel is another great milestone in Salaam Properties’ successful investments within Djibouti’s burgeoning tourism sector.”

Indeed, Djibouti is fast becoming a tourism heaven in the Horn of Africa. This, coupled with its strategic location as a regional economic hub with a lot of potentials, makes it an investor’s target. It is, therefore, expected that the partnership will benefit all parties involved in the long run.
