1. Cristiano Ronaldo scored at six World Cups

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first footballer to score in six different World Cup tournaments.

The Portugal captain achieved the milestone with two goals against Uzbekistan. He has now scored at every World Cup from 2006 to 2026.

2. Kylian Mbappe became the World Cup’s highest scorer

Mbappe moved above Lionel Messi to become the highest goalscorer in World Cup history.

The France captain scored 10 goals during the 2026 tournament, taking his career total to 22 goals in 22 appearances.

Messi briefly held the record with 21 goals before Mbappe scored twice against England in the third-place match.

3. Lionel Messi recorded the most World Cup victories

Messi finished the tournament with 23 World Cup match victories, more than any other player.

Argentina won seven consecutive matches on their way to the final before losing 1-0 to Spain after extra time.

The previous individual record belonged to Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who recorded 17 victories.

4. Messi scored in nine consecutive appearances

The Argentina captain scored in nine successive World Cup appearances.

The midfielder broke his own record of 638 completed passes, which he established at the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Rodri’s control of Spain’s midfield also helped him win the 2026 Golden Ball.

7. Michael Olise delivered seven assists

France winger Michael Olise registered seven assists, the highest total recorded by a player at one World Cup.

He surpassed Pele’s previous single-tournament record of six assists for Brazil in 1970.

Five of Olise’s assists created goals for Mbappe.

8. Unai Simon kept seven clean sheets

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon kept seven clean sheets in eight matches.

No goalkeeper had previously recorded more than five clean sheets during one World Cup.

Spain conceded only one goal throughout the tournament, while Simon won the Golden Glove after helping his country defeat Argentina in the final.

9. Eloy Room made 16 saves in 90 minutes

Curaçao goalkeeper Eloy Room made 16 saves during his country’s goalless draw with Ecuador.

He equalled the overall record set by United States goalkeeper Tim Howard against Belgium in 2014.

However, Howard’s match went into extra time, making Room the first goalkeeper to make 16 saves within 90 minutes of a World Cup game.

10. Didier Deschamps managed the most World Cup matches

Didier Deschamps surpassed Helmut Schön’s record for the most matches managed at the World Cup.

The French coach reached the milestone during France’s semifinal defeat to Spain and extended his total in the third-place game against England.

Deschamps finished his fourth World Cup as France coach with 27 matches and 20 victories.

11. Dick Advocaat became the oldest World Cup coach

Dick Advocaat became the oldest coach to manage a team at the World Cup.

The Dutchman was 78 years and 271 days old when he led Curaçao against Côte d’Ivoire.

He broke the previous record held by Otto Rehhagel, who was 71 when he coached Greece at the 2010 tournament.

12. Johan Manzambi became the youngest substitute to score twice

Switzerland’s Johan Manzambi became the youngest substitute to score two goals in a World Cup match.

Manzambi was 20 years and 247 days old when he came off the bench and scored twice during Switzerland’s 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He broke the record set by Paraguay’s Nelson Cuevas in 2002.

13. Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane scored six goals each

Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane became the first teammates to score at least six goals each during the same World Cup campaign.

Kane finished the tournament with six goals, while Bellingham scored seven after finding the net against France in the third-place playoff.

14. Mbappe and Dembele matched the scoring milestone

France also produced two players who scored at least six goals during the tournament.

Mbappe finished with 10 goals, while Ousmane Dembele scored six.

Their combined total made France the second team at the 2026 tournament to have two players reach the six-goal mark. Before 2026, no country had achieved the feat in one World Cup campaign.
