Top 10 African Countries with the Most Deportations from the U.S. in 2024

Huge Concerns about mass deportations increased in the United States, particularly during President Donald Trump’s time in office, which focused on tough immigration rules. 

Countries like Senegal, Mauritania, and Nigeria had the highest numbers of people sent back to their home countries. 

This was part of Trump’s plan to greatly reduce illegal immigration and improve national security. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made many arrests and deportations, especially targeting those who stayed longer than their visas allowed or had committed crimes.

Here are the top 10 African countries with the Most Deportations from the U.S. in 2024:

Senegal 

Senegal had the highest number, with 410 people deported. Many were sent back for overstaying their visas or breaking other immigration rules.

Mauritania

This country saw 353 people deported, showing the strict immigration control the U.S. has, especially on countries with less strict documentation processes.

Nigeria 

Known for its large number of migrants to the U.S., Nigeria had 138 people deported, mainly for not following U.S. immigration laws or having failed asylum applications.

Angola 

119 Angolans were deported, highlighting the difficulties faced by people from areas with economic or conflict-related issues who seek better opportunities abroad without proper legal procedures.

DR Congo

With 96 deportations, this number points to the problems related to asylum seekers and refugees from areas with violence and human rights issues.

Ghana

94 people from Ghana were deported, often due to complications like overstaying visas.

Guinea 

85 people were deported from Guinea, reflecting challenges related to immigration from West Africa, driven by economic and political instability.

Somalia

Somalia, with 64 deportations, is often focused on due to security concerns and the status of many as asylum seekers or refugees.

Morocco 

49 Moroccans were deported as part of regular immigration enforcement, reflecting Morocco’s position as a pathway for migrants heading to the U.S. from North Africa.

Kenya

With 48 deportations, Kenya’s situation highlights the issues faced by East African migrants and the difficulties they encounter.
