US Court Dismisses Criminal Charges Against Gautam Adani

A US judge has dismissed criminal charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, ending a legal battle that had previously derailed massive infrastructure investments in Africa.

The court’s decision comes nearly two years after Adani was first indicted, a move that triggered a chain reaction of project cancellations and financial losses in Kenya.

Following the initial US indictment, the Kenyan government cancelled airport and electricity projects worth more than $2.5 billion. Those deals, which were intended to boost Kenya’s energy and transport sectors, were scrapped as a direct consequence of the legal pressure and scrutiny surrounding the billionaire.

The dismissal of the charges removes the criminal cloud that had hung over Adani’s global operations, though the economic impact of the failed Kenyan deals remains a significant fallout from the case.

The ruling concludes the legal proceedings in the US court, clearing the billionaire of the charges that had compromised his ability to execute multi-billion dollar agreements on the continent.
