WAEC Opens Recruitment for Nigerians, Sets May 25 Deadline
The West African Examinations Council has opened applications for several job positions in Nigeria, with the deadline fixed for May 25, 2026.
In a notice issued by its Human Resource Management Department, WAEC called on qualified Nigerians to apply for openings across key departments, including administration, finance, ICT, audit, and secretarial services.
The council said the recruitment covers nine positions. These include Examinations Officer roles in general duties, accounts, and ICT, as well as Assistant Examinations Officers and Confidential Secretaries. Applications must be submitted online through WAEC’s official recruitment portal, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
WAEC said applicants must not be older than 40 years by the closing date.
The council explained that qualification requirements depend on the position. Candidates applying for officer-level roles must have a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in a related field, along with an NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate. Those applying for assistant-level roles must have a National Diploma or NCE in relevant areas.
All applicants are also expected to have at least five credits in WASSCE or SSCE, including English Language and Mathematics, and must be computer literate. WAEC added that some positions, especially in accounts and ICT, may require or favour candidates with relevant professional certifications.
WAEC remains one of the biggest examination bodies in West Africa, conducting major secondary school exams such as WASSCE. The latest recruitment comes as the council continues efforts to strengthen its technical and administrative capacity, especially in ICT and exam management, amid rising candidate numbers.
The council has also expanded its use of digital systems in recent years, including computer-based testing and improved result processing, as part of efforts to boost efficiency and credibility.
The recruitment push comes shortly after WAEC released the results of 10,480 candidates who sat for the 2026 computer-based WASSCE for private candidates. The council said 32.72% obtained five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, an outcome that showed improvement from previous years.
The exam was held from January 28 to February 14, 2026, in 166 centres across the country, with more than 600 examiners involved in the marking process.
