10 Footballers You Didn’t Know Are Twins

Football is filled with stories of passion, talent, and legacy what’s more fascinating than one footballer in a family? Two. Even more intriguing? 

Twins who play professionally. Some have worked side by side, while others have carved separate paths in the same sport. Here are he n well-known footballers who share not just DNA, but a love for the game with their twin.

Jurrien and Quinten Timber

The latest twin pair to emerge from the Netherlands, Jurrien and Quinten Timber are taking different but impressive routes. Jurrien has made a name for himself at Arsenal, while Quinten is a key player at Feyenoord, having won both the Eredivisie and multiple KNVB Cups. 

Ewald and Erwin Koeman

Long before Ronald Koeman became a Dutch football icon, his older twin brothers, Ewald and Erwin, were already in the game. Both represented the Netherlands at different levels and enjoyed solid club careers. 

Though they didn’t gain the spotlight like Ronald, their contributions to Dutch football remain notable.

Josh and Jacob Murphy

Starting out at Norwich’s academy, the Murphy twins have since gone their separate ways professionally. Jacob has found a strong footing at Newcastle United, even making appearances in the Champions League. Josh, meanwhile, continues his journey at Oxford United in League One. Different clubs, same footballing roots.

Paul Pogba’s Brothers: Mathias and Florentin Pogba

Paul Pogba often steals the headlines, but his older twin brothers have also made football their career. Florentin and Mathias Pogba represent Guinea on the international stage and have played across leagues in England, Scotland, France, and the MLS. 

While Florentin currently plays for Belgian side R.E. Virton, Mathias’ story took a darker turn with a jail sentence following a legal case involving Paul.

Jose and Juanmi Callejón

Jose Callejón made waves with Real Madrid and especially Napoli, where his quick movement and finishing stood out. But not many know he has a twin, Juanmi who also pursued football. 

While Juanmi didn’t reach the same heights, he spent his career in Spain’s lower leagues, quietly continuing the family tradition.

Hamit and Halil Altıntop

This Turkish twin duo were both standout players in their own right. Hamit played for giants like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Galatasaray, bringing flair and finesse to midfield. Halil wasn’t far behind making his mark with Schalke and Kaiserslautern. Today, Halil is shaping the next generation as a coach.

Rafael and Fábio da Silva

Manchester United fans remember the Brazilian duo Rafael and Fábio, who arrived at Old Trafford in 2008. While Rafael established himself under Sir Alex Ferguson, Fábio had fewer opportunities and moved to clubs like Cardiff. 

Aleksei and Vasili Berezutski

When it comes to defensive powerhouses, the Berezutski twins were a force for both CSKA Moscow and the Russian national team. Towering, tenacious, and well-organized, they helped their club to multiple league titles and lifted the UEFA Cup in 2005 leaving a lasting legacy in Russian football.

Frank and Ronald de Boer

Arguably the most famous football twins in Dutch history, Frank and Ronald de Boer were a joy to watch. Starting out at Ajax, their partnership extended to FC Barcelona and the Dutch national team. The duo’s understanding on the pitch was unmatched, guiding the Netherlands to major tournament runs and lifting club trophies in the process.

Radja and Riana Nainggoan

Known for his fierce playing style, Radja Nainggolan shone in Serie A with clubs like Roma and Inter Milan. But few know he has a twin sister, Riana, who also played football professionally. In 2015, she represented Belgium at the international level, showing that talent truly ran in the family.
