Abubakar Chika Malami launches 2027 Kebbi governorship campaign

Abubakar Chika Malami, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Kebbi State, has formally commenced his campaign for the 2027 governorship election.

During the official flag-off of his campaign in Birnin Kebbi, Malami pledged to run a campaign rooted in substantive policy discussions rather than the personality-driven or ethnic-based politics often seen in Nigerian elections.

The candidate stated that his administration would prioritise the transformation of the healthcare sector and the development of other critical social services to improve the standard of living for Kebbi residents.

Focus on healthcare and sectoral development

Malami’s campaign strategy aims to address long-standing challenges in the state, particularly regarding medical infrastructure and access to essential services. He argued that the next phase of governance in Kebbi must move beyond rhetoric and focus on measurable outcomes in public health, education, and local economic empowerment.

The ADC candidate’s decision to launch his campaign early reflects a growing trend among Nigerian political aspirants seeking to build momentum and establish a presence well ahead of the 2027 polls. By initiating his movement now, Malami intends to create a platform that focuses on specific legislative and executive goals rather than seasonal political campaigning.

Kebbi State politics has traditionally been dominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). By positioning the ADC as a serious contender, Malami is attempting to provide voters with a third alternative focused on governance and sector-specific reforms.

The campaign’s Director-General noted that the movement would focus on grassroots engagement to ensure that the specific needs of various local government areas are integrated into the party’s manifesto. This approach is intended to move the political discourse away from traditional divides and towards a focus on community-level development.

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, Malami’s campaign is expected to focus on resource mobilisation and expanding the ADC’s footprint across the state’s senatorial districts. The campaign is scheduled to move into its next phase of town hall meetings to engage directly with constituents.
