The Ebonyi State Government has condemned a reported protest in Abuja against Governor Francis Nwifuru, describing the demonstration and the surrounding narratives as purely politically motivated.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Ikeuwah Omebeh, made this declaration while briefing journalists at his office in the Old Government House, Abakaliki. He asserted that the protest was an orchestrated attempt to create a false perception of the state’s leadership.
The government’s response follows reports of a demonstration in Abuja against Governor Francis Nwifuru, which the state administration has dismissed as a manufactured crisis designed to destabilise the current government.
Political motivations behind Abuja demonstration
Chief Omebeh argued that the demonstrators and the claims they presented were not reflections of genuine public grievances but were instead tools used by political actors to gain leverage. He stated that the government views these actions as an effort to undermine the progress being made within the state through misinformation.
The state administration maintains that the timing and nature of the Abuja protest suggest a coordinated campaign by political opponents. By taking the protest to the Federal Capital Territory, the government believes the actors intended to influence national discourse and create unnecessary friction between the state and federal authorities.
In his briefing, the Commissioner emphasized that the Ebonyi State Government will not be distracted from its developmental mandate by what he described as “political theatrics.” He noted that the administration remains focused on its policy objectives and the welfare of the people of Ebonyi, despite these attempts to shift focus through external agitation.
Political observers in the region have noted that protests in the nation’s capital are frequently used by various political factions to voice local disputes on a national stage. The Ebonyi government’s swift condemnation is seen as a strategy to delegitimise the protesters’ claims and prevent them from gaining momentum within the federal political space.
The government has urged the public to disregard the narratives being propagated by the protesters, suggesting that they are being misled by interests that do not have the state’s best interests at heart. The administration intends to continue its current course of governance, asserting that its achievements will speak louder than the orchestrated protests in Abuja.
As of the time of this report, the specific identities of the organised groups behind the Abuja protest have not been officially disclosed by the state government, though the administration remains firm in its stance that the movement is non-organic. The state government is expected to continue monitoring these developments to protect the reputation of the Nwifuru administration.
