Lagos Showcases Tech Ecosystem and Startups at GITEX Nigeria

Lagos State has used its participation in GITEX Nigeria 2026 to present its growing technology ecosystem and emerging startups to the international community. The state’s involvement is aimed at securing new partnerships and promoting its goal of becoming Africa’s primary innovation capital.

The Lagos State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MIST) coordinated the state’s presence at the international technology event. Led by Commissioner Olatunbosun Alake, the delegation focused on showcasing investment opportunities within the state’s expanding digital economy.

The state’s activities, which included showcasing startups and digital economy ambitions at GITEX Nigeria, serve to connect local innovators with global venture capitalists and industry leaders.

Lagos has long maintained its position as a central hub for technology in Nigeria, hosting a significant portion of the country’s tech talent and startup activity. By participating in GITEX, the state government intends to formalise these connections and attract the foreign direct investment necessary to scale local solutions to a global level.

Strengthening the digital economy framework

The Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology is working to create an environment where technology-driven businesses can thrive. This includes providing the necessary regulatory support and infrastructure to ensure that the digital economy contributes more robustly to the state’s overall economic growth.

Commissioner Alake and his team used the platform to engage with stakeholders regarding the state’s strategic roadmap for technology. The discussions focused on how the state can better support emerging companies as they transition from early-stage startups to established players in the global market.

The participation in GITEX Nigeria 2026 is expected to lead to increased visibility for Lagos-based tech firms, potentially opening doors for international collaborations. The Ministry is now tasked with following up on the various discussions held during the event to ensure that the interests expressed by investors translate into actual capital inflows for the state’s tech sector.
