Mary Remmy Njoku Says JAMB Should Be Scrapped After 2025 Exam Failures

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Remmy Njoku is speaking out against the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), saying the exam should no longer be required for university admission in Nigeria.

Her comments come after technical problems with the 2025 UTME exams caused many students to fail.

Taking to Instagram, Njoku questioned why students still have to write JAMB when they’ve already completed their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

“Why is it necessary to take the JAMB exam to gain admission into universities? Isn’t the SSCE enough?” she asked.

Njoku shared that she once struggled with JAMB herself, failing several times and being unable to gain admission—until she eventually found success through acting.

“JAMB almost ‘jammed’ my life,” she wrote. “Thank God for Nollywood. But honestly, I believe JAMB should be scrapped.”

She suggested that if universities want to be more selective, they can simply ask students to get higher grades in their SSCE, instead of making them write another exam.
