Omokri Criticises Abati for Questioning Seyi Tinubu’s Livelihood
In a recent outburst, Reno Omokri, a former presidential spokesperson, has lambasted Arise TV host, Dr. Reuben Abati, for questioning the professional engagements of Seyi Tinubu, the son of the President. Omokri’s critique came in response to Abati’s comments regarding Seyi Tinubu’s accompaniment of his father to a business summit in Qatar.
Dr. Abati, in his broadcast, expressed concern over the apparent dependency of the President’s children on their father’s status. He reminisced about his own achievements at their age, including earning a PhD at 24, and emphasised the importance of self-reliance and responsibility.
However, Omokri defended the President’s decision to involve Seyi Tinubu in the business trip. He argued that, historically, leaders have often included their children in official engagements when they are involved in business. He cited examples of Margaret Thatcher, Olusegun Obasanjo, Joe Biden, and Donald Trump, who all, at different times, included their children in official business summits or appointed them as advisers.
Omokri further highlighted Seyi Tinubu’s involvement in various business ventures, questioning the basis of Abati’s enquiry into his professional life. He also commended the President for maintaining a clear boundary between government affairs and business activities, as demonstrated when Seyi Tinubu was reportedly asked to leave a Federal Executive Council meeting.
In conclusion, Omokri asserted that while the timing of the trip might have been ill-advised given the current divisive climate in Nigeria, there was nothing legally or ethically wrong with Seyi Tinubu’s participation in the business summit. He urged critics to focus on facts rather than resorting to personal attacks.
