Wike Threatens to Seal Banks Helping PDP Operate Illegally

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has warned banks against helping the Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party open accounts for the sale of nomination forms.

Wike said any bank that allows such an account would face serious consequences. He also warned property owners against allowing the faction to use their buildings as PDP headquarters.

The minister gave the warning while reacting to the fresh crisis in the PDP.

Wike Threatens Tough Action

Wike said he would not allow any group to act against a Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership structure.

“I will seal off any house that allows them to use it as the PDP headquarters. Any bank that allows them to open an account for the sale of nomination forms will be in trouble,” he said.

His warning targets those supporting the interim National Working Committee linked to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Makinde Under Fire

Wike accused Makinde of backing an illegal move within the PDP.

According to him, the Supreme Court had already ruled against the formation of such an interim committee. He said any attempt to ignore that ruling would amount to fraud.

“I never knew Governor Makinde was involved in this 419 thing,” Wike said.

The comment shows how deep the division inside the PDP has become. What started as an internal leadership dispute has now turned into a wider political fight.

PDP Crisis Deepens

The PDP has faced months of internal tension. Rival groups have continued to fight for control of the party’s structure.

Wike’s latest warning adds more pressure to the opposition party. It also sends a message to banks, landlords and political actors who may want to deal with the disputed faction.

The FCT minister insists that no group should operate outside the law or ignore the court.

Wike Dismisses One-Party Claims

Wike also reacted to claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress is trying to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

He dismissed the argument and said opposition parties were weakening themselves through their own actions.

He mentioned reports that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso had left the ADC, asking whether the APC forced them to leave.

“Is it the ruling party that made them leave the ADC? Were they sponsored by the APC to leave?” he asked.

Wike said the ADC may collapse on its own because of internal problems.

What This Means

Wike’s statement shows that the PDP crisis is far from over.

His warning to banks and property owners raises the stakes for the Turaki-led faction. It also shows that the fight over the party’s leadership may now affect institutions outside politics.

For now, Wike is making one thing clear: anyone who helps the faction operate against the court’s decision may face action.
