Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol Price to ₦820, Unveils CNG Truck Rollout Plan for August 15
The Dangote Refinery has announced a fresh reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), cutting rates from ₦850 to ₦820 per litre, effective Monday, August 12, 2025.
The move is expected to bring some relief to motorists and businesses grappling with high fuel costs since the removal of petrol subsidies last year.
In a statement, the refinery said the decision aligns with its mission to ease the burden on consumers while enhancing efficiency in Nigeria’s fuel distribution network.
4,000 CNG Trucks to Hit the Roads
As part of its long-term strategy to cut logistics costs and improve nationwide fuel supply, the refinery will commence the phased rollout of 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks from Thursday, August 15, 2025.
The multi-billion-naira investment is designed to bypass multiple layers of middlemen and deliver products directly to retail outlets and large-scale consumers.
Industry analysts say the CNG trucks will not only reduce transportation expenses but also help curb petrol price volatility across different regions of the country.
The price cut has already begun to influence the market, with several independent depots and fuel marketers trimming their own ex-depot prices to remain competitive.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) welcomed the development, praising the refinery’s role in stabilising supply and moderating costs. The union urged the federal government to complement this effort by selling crude oil to local refiners in naira, which they believe could further reduce pump prices for consumers.
Global and Local Price Dynamics
The reduction comes as international crude oil prices ease, creating room for downstream operators to adjust domestic prices. With Dangote Refinery’s massive production capacity and direct distribution model, industry stakeholders expect further downward pressure on petrol costs in the coming months.
By pairing a strategic price cut with a CNG-driven logistics overhaul, the refinery is positioning itself not only as a fuel supplier but also as a transformative force in Nigeria’s energy and transport sectors.
