Nigeria Holds 26th Spot in Latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have maintained their position as the 26th-best national team in the world in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking, released on Thursday. The team experienced a slight dip in points following recent international friendlies, but their global standing remains unchanged.
The three-time African champions now have 1,585.02 ranking points, down 1.67 points from the previous period. This reflects mixed results in the June international window, including a 2-1 defeat to Portugal and a 2-2 draw against Poland.
Despite these results, Nigeria continues to rank among Africa’s elite football nations. They trail continental leader Morocco, who reached a historic 7th place globally, marking the highest FIFA ranking ever achieved by an African nation. Other African teams ahead of Nigeria include Senegal (15th globally), Algeria, Egypt, and Côte d’Ivoire, all comfortably within the top 35 worldwide.
At the top of the global rankings, Argentina retained the number one spot with 1,877.27 points, followed closely by Spain and France in second and third. England and Portugal round out the top five.
While the Super Eagles remain outside the world’s top 20, holding on to the 26th spot provides some stability after a period of inconsistent performances.
The next FIFA Men’s World Ranking update is scheduled for July 20, 2026, offering another opportunity for the Super Eagles to improve their standing.
