Nigerian Soldiers Attack Bayelsa State, Killing 11 People
Business Elite Africa previously reported that following the killing of Nigerian soldiers in Delta State, the soldiers opted for retaliation.
Initially, they targeted the Okuama community in the Ughelli South local government area of Delta State, resulting in the demolition of several buildings.
Subsequently, on Monday, troops from the Nigerian Army launched an incursion into the Igbomotoru community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
During this operation, numerous houses were set ablaze, and reportedly, approximately 11 individuals lost their lives.
The incursion, carried out by soldiers in five gunboats, aimed to eradicate three houses suspected to be harbouring a militant leader allegedly involved in the aforementioned killing of military personnel during a rescue mission in Delta State.
Ayibakipreye Solomon Clarkson Suobo, a community leader, issued an urgent distress call to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, Suobo corroborated the military’s invasion and the subsequent arson.
He pleaded, “I am calling on all security chiefs in Nigeria to please kindly intervene to save lives and property in the Igbomotoru 2 community, which started about 8 am this morning.
Information reaching me as the CTC member representing the good and peace of Igbomotoru Ward 6 is very unpleasant.
The military is a very trained organisation whose responsibility is to defend its citizens rather than destroy them.
“To buttress further, the news about the brutal killing of military personnel a few days ago in Delta State is a condemnable act, but my current concern is how the intelligence reports are linked.
There was a need for a better approach than attacking and killing innocent indigent people in my community, Igbomotoru 2, which is situated thousands of miles away from Delta State, where the gruesome murder of military personnel occurred.
