VP Shettima seeks international support for Renewed Hope Agenda

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on the international community to support the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda during his participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Speaking at the assembly, the Vice President stated that the administration is working to reposition the Nigerian economy, with a specific focus on sectors that drive long-term growth and stability. He identified education, health, science and technology, and agriculture as the primary areas of intervention.

The mission in New York is intended to foster international partnerships and attract the necessary investment to implement these core policy objectives. The administration’s strategy relies on securing external cooperation to complement domestic economic reforms.

Strategic sector repositioning

The Vice President’s appeal in New York comes as the administration attempts to stabilise the economy following significant shifts in fuel subsidy regimes and foreign exchange policies. By focusing on agriculture, the government aims to tackle food insecurity and reduce the inflationary pressures affecting the nation.

In the areas of science, technology, and education, Shettima noted that the administration is prioritising the development of human capital. The goal is to build a workforce capable of competing in a modern global economy, thereby reducing the country’s reliance on traditional economic models.

The Renewed Hope Agenda, the flagship policy framework of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, seeks to address systemic issues in governance and economic management. The emphasis on health and social infrastructure is also designed to improve the overall quality of life for Nigerians, which the government views as a prerequisite for sustainable development.

The success of these diplomatic engagements will depend on the ability of the federal government to translate international interest into tangible investment agreements. Observers will be monitoring whether the discussions held at the UNGA result in concrete financial or technical support for Nigeria’s priority sectors.
