Tinubu Appoints Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security
President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as the Special Adviser on Homeland Security. The appointment, announced in an official circular signed by George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security framework.
According to the statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, this appointment underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing intelligence-driven operations, improving inter-agency coordination, and addressing emerging security challenges nationwide.
Fadewa’s Impressive Background
Major General Fadewa (retired), a highly decorated officer, brings over 30 years of military and intelligence experience to his new role. His extensive career spans national security strategy, counter-terrorism operations, and international security diplomacy.
Before his retirement, Fadewa served as the Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser (NSA) from 2015 to 2021. In this capacity, he was instrumental in shaping Nigeria’s modern intelligence coordination framework.
Fadewa also played a crucial role in the creation of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC), an integrated platform that combines resources from key agencies such as the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces. The IFC was established to improve national threat assessment and coordination during security operations.
Post-Retirement Contributions
After retiring from active service, Fadewa continued to contribute to national security through his role as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre. There, he provided valuable insights into policy discussions concerning policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reforms.
Fadewa is also the author of the monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria”, which outlines actionable strategies to enhance civil-security collaboration.
Tinubu’s Confidence in Fadewa’s Appointment
In his statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s appointment will support efforts to build a safer and more secure Nigeria. The president emphasised that Fadewa’s experience and strategic insights will be pivotal in enhancing the integration of intelligence, coordinating homeland security initiatives, and implementing proactive risk management measures.
Tinubu also urged Fadewa to use his vast knowledge and experience to advance national security goals in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
