Were You There? Nollywood Series Throw Back

Ah, the golden days of the Nollywood web series! Remember when the anticipation for the next episode of your favorite show kept you glued to your screen? If you were part of that excitement, then you know exactly what I’m talking about.

Whether it was the laughter, the tears, or the drama, these shows gave us life—and they still do! Now, let’s walk down memory lane and revisit some of the most iconic Nollywood web series that gave us all the feels.

Skinny Girl in Transit

Who can forget the relatable struggles of Tiwa, the lovable and fierce plus-sized woman trying to navigate life in Lagos? Created by Temi Balogun, Skinny Girl in Transit quickly became a fan favorite.

Tiwa’s journey through weight loss, love, family drama, and career challenges felt so real that it was impossible not to root for her. The show took us on an emotional rollercoaster across seven seasons, and it was the perfect mix of comedy, drama, and romance.

Not only did SGIT bring smiles to our faces, but it also introduced us to a talented cast, including Sharon Ooja and Timini Egbuson, who became household names thanks to the show. With over 80 episodes, this web series is still a must-watch if you want to relive the best of Nollywood drama.

The Men’s Club

Remember those Fridays when all we could think about was The Men’s Club? Aminu, Tayo, and the gang had us swooning and dreaming about love, loyalty, and, well, a bit of mischief.

Directed by Tola Odunsi, this series follows four men as they navigate their love lives, careers, and friendships, all while keeping us glued to our screens.

From the lavish vacations to the heartfelt moments of brotherhood, The Men’s Club was a breath of fresh air in Nollywood storytelling. Featuring stellar performances from Ayoola Ayolola, Baaj Adebule, and Sola Sobowale, the show gave us everything from heartwarming romance to jaw-dropping drama.

Assistant Madams

What do you get when you combine three ambitious women, high-stakes drama, and a dash of sass? Assistant Madams! Released in 2020, this series took us on a wild ride through the glamorous yet cutthroat world of three women determined to live their best lives—no matter the cost.

Whether it was taking down one man at a time or navigating the tricky world of hustle culture, the show kept us on the edge of our seats. Starring Cynthia “Cee-C” Nwadiora and Salma Mumin, Assistant Madams was the perfect guilty pleasure for anyone who loves a bit of drama and intrigue.

Game On

Drama? Check. Messy relationships? Double check. Game On brought all the heat with its portrayal of two couples and their complex romantic entanglements. Leye and Mayowa’s long-term relationship versus Osaze and Tega’s marriage gave us the perfect balance of love, conflict, and those “what-would-you-do” moments.

The show was packed with twists and turns, and it was hard not to get emotionally invested. Eso Dike, Ebenezer Eno, and Omowunmi Dada delivered outstanding performances that kept us hooked from the first episode to the last.

Rumour Has It

Gossip, rumors, and backstabbing—it doesn’t get juicier than Rumour Has It! If you ever wondered how celebrity gossip blogs operate, this series gave us a glimpse into that world through the eyes of Obi, the queen of internet rumors.

As Obi’s reign was threatened by her cunning assistant Ranti, the drama escalated to new heights. The show, written by Lani Aisida, offered not just entertainment but also an inside look at the power struggles behind the scenes of the gossip industry. Jemima Osunde and Olumide Oworu’s brilliant performances made this show an absolute must-watch.
